Farmers Market Day celebrates 125 years of Jokioinen Railway
Two steam trains operate during the day, which means that there are almost twice as many departures. The second of the day's steam trains celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Jokioinen railway. The train is pulled by the Porter steam locomotive shown on the top right picture. The first two steam locomotives of the Jokioinen railway were also built by the American H.K. Porter.
In that train, there are 2 Jokioinen railway passenger cars and the JR 11 conductor car, which have been in use on the Jokioinen railway since almost the beginning. The appearance of the wagons has changed over the years, but they are still the same wagons as alm,aost 125 years ago.
Market
Minkiö is the only place in Finland where you can experience an old time countryside market with real steam trains running. The Sunday just in the beginning of July is the time of the traditional Minkiö Farmers' Market. Hundreds of people crowd the market at Minkiö station and ride trains to Humppila and Jokioinen. On this Sunday there are trains in operation from morning to late afternoon.
Music
At the Farmers Market you can experience market life and of course enjoy live music and travel on a steam train. Harri Nuutinen, known from the Tanssin taika orchestra, will be responsible for the day's music, he will perform at 12:00-12:30 and 1:30-2:00 p.m.
Attn! Also Humppila station cafe will be open!
Minkiö country store is part of the Jokioinen Municipal Days and the Jokioinen 150th anniversary celebrations.
We kindly ask you the arrive to Minkiö by trains, as there is very limited parking at Minkiö station. The market is organised by Kiipu Village Association.
