Jokioinen Museum Railway and Museum Railway Association wishes all the friends of museum railway Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2014!

Christmas card of this year is - once again - illustrated by locomotive engineer PTJ Koskinen. Santa Claus with his little helpers has just pulled the newly renovated JR4 Tubize steam locomotive out of Minkiö workshop and is now pushing it in a Christmas gift packet. It looks like we caught them before the packet was closed and sealed! You may also visit our image gallery with a collection of Christmas cards previously illustrated by PTJ Koskinen.

Renovation of the Jänhijoki railway bridge, the oldest metal railway bridge still in railway use in Finland was completed on Thursday 3.10. The bridge dating back from 1897 was thoroughly renovated. The joints between the stones were seemed, bearings of the bridge renovated and abutments on both ends of the bridge repaired. All this work was made possible with the financial aid of the National Board of Antiquities and help of the Finnish Transport Agency
The bridge has quite interesting history. In 1918 during the Finnish Civil War the retreating red troops tried to blow the bridge up. However they only managed to cause some minor damage to the bridge and quite soon the bridge was temporally repaired with logs that supported one end of the bridge. In the beginning of the 1920s the bridge was fully repaired by the bridge department of Finnish State Railways. You can still see the marks of this reparation work in the three diagonal rivet joints on one end of the bridge.
