Martti Virtanen, an entrepreneur from Riihimäki, was elected as the president of Museum Railway Association. He will succeed Mr Antti Välkki who has been the president since 1998. Mr Virtanen has served before as the vice president of Museum Railway Association. Pekka Välimäki, a museum assistant of the Finnish Railway Museum in Hyvinkää was selected as a vice president. The new board was appointed in the annual autumn meeting of Museum Railway Association at the Minkiö depot of Jokioinen Museum Railway.
The new president takes as his main objective to increase the amount of voluntary work made by members of the association.
- Our association has at the moment over 700 members all around Finland, but only small amount of members takes part in running the railway. Our main objective is to internally market the possibility to help to run the railway by attending our work sessions. The recently completed new workshop and accommodation building makes it easier to attend the sessions, even in winter time. We like to also mention that everybody is welcome. There is something to do for everybody regardless your age, education or sex, Martti Virtanen is saying.
Ms Lea Harjula, a bank official from Jokioinen, was elected as a new vice member of the board. Mr Juha-Pekka Viitanen from Jokioinen, Mr Janne Rutonen from Hämeenlinna and Mr Lauri Niemi from Vantaa continue in the board. Mr Marko Tuominen from Jokioinen continues as a secretary and Mr Olli Virtanen from Kirkkonummi continues as a treasurer.
The largest single project of the Museum Railway in 2002 has been finishing up and furnishing the new work shop at Minkiö. The heated work shop has been making the renovation of rolling stock easier, because the work can be done now off season in winter time. The shop is been currently fitted with machinery for both wood and metal work. At the moment there are three locomotives and one railway carriage in the shop under renovation.

The autumn colors train which ended the operating season of Jokioinen Museum Railway was operated on Saturday 5.10. with especially winterly weather. There was a heavy snow fall night before and in the morning there was 21 cm of snow in Jokioinen. The snow did not disturbe the train traffic and all trains were running on schedule.
The operating season 2003 of Jokioinen Museum Railway will start in the beginning of May. The scheduled suday traffic will start in the beginning of June 2003.

On Saturday evening the 21st of September at 22:30 hours the starlight train ran over a deer. The accident happened on the mainline at Saustila railway crossing about 1/2 km north of Minkiö station. The train was delayed for about 20 minutes. On Sunday morning members of the local hunting association found the dead deer near by.

The 2002 scheduled Sunday steam train operations of Jokioinen Museum railway started with an opening ceremony on Sunday 2.6. Steam trains will be running every Sunday from 2.6. until 1.9. and also on Saturdays of the Starlight Train on 21.9. and on Saturday of the Autumn Colors train on Saturday 5.10.
During the opening ceremeony of the operating season 2002 the new Minkiö workshop building was also inaugurated. The 600 m2 building was handed over to Jokioinen Museum Railway in the end of May and inaugurated by the Director of the Center of the Employment and Economic Development Mr Pekka Savolainen. In the event were also present the undersecretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry Mr Erkki Virtanen and the mayors of both Jokioinen and Humppila.

The Minkiö workshop building which has been under construction since October has been completed one month ahead of original schedule. The building has been completed by HE Kallioinen from Jokioinen and they handed over the building to Jokioinen Museum railway on Monday 20th of May. The building will officially be taken in service on the opening day of the operating season of Jokioinen Museum Railway on 2nd of June. However the locomotive shop and accommodation will be moved to new building immediately.

The first steam train of summer 2002 was running on Thursday 9.5. 2002 from Minkiö to Humppila. The train was chartered by a 40 person group who enjoyed nice and sunny weather.

In the beginning of the year 2002 customers of Jokioinen Museum Railway were asked of their opinion of the railway. It looks like the train trip is the most important, followed by the good service of the on board staff and the good and accessible location of the Jokioinen Museum Railway. Improvement was asked for the restaurant services at the museum railway.
There was a Jokioinen Museum Railway T-shirt lottery with all the people who replied. The happy winner was Friends of Rover Ry, Heikki Sirkesalo from Helsinki. Congratulations.

On Friday March 8 there were celebration of roofing of the new Minkiö workshop. The sky was blue and the bright spring sun was shining on white snow cover. The construction of the workshop has moved to interior construction like painting, laying down the floor tiles, and to electricity and plumbing work.
The work is running well ahead the schedule, was a comment of the construction company at the roofing celebration at the Jokioinen town hall. They believe the construction work is completed by end of May this year.
The workshop, which is built by order of Jokioinen municipality by H.E. Kallioinen Oy construction company is one of the biggest projects in the history of Jokioinen Museum Railway. The total estimated cost of the workshop with all exterior work, the rail connection and drainage built is close to 500,000 Euros.
